My outfit #9 - A stormy day

Last friday, the weather couldn't possibly be any worse: cold, rain, wind... You name it.

I dressed for the occasion, with a very warm and cosy poncho on top of a cardigan I love and wear a lot, by Globe. This cardigan is made of pure wool, is long and has a fur neck that provides a certain luxury (and warmth, of course), which makes it perfect for any bad weather day. The jumper has a removable neck protector that I take out at home. So, I was feeling really comfortable on my top half!

I wore jeans to work, but I added the animal print on the belt and bracelets, just to give a little more glamour to all those woolen pieces. The bag is a suede one and those handles make it stand out.

The colors are quite neutral and the blue poncho saves the day, along with the animal print. I like brown for winter, is dark and elegant, but it can be a little boring, sometimes: another pop of color is always welcome.

Na 6ª feira, o tempo não podia ter estado pior: frio, chuva, vento... É só escolher.

Vesti-me de acordo com a ocasião, com um poncho quente e aconchegante sobre um cardigan que adoro e uso muito, da Globe. Este cardigan é feito de pura lã, é comprido e tem uma gola de pêlo que lhe dá um certo ar de luxo (e calor, claro está), o que o torna perfeito para qualquer dia meteorologicamente mau. A camisola tem uma gola amovível que retiro quando estou em casa. Estava mesmo confortável na parte de cima do corpo!

Levei as calças de ganga para o trabalho, mas acrescentei o padrão leopardo no cinto e nas pulseiras, para dar um pouco mais de glamour a todas aquelas peças de lã. A mala é de camurça e aquelas pegas das mãos fazem-na dar nas vistas.

As cores são bastante neutras e o poncho azul salva o dia, juntamente com o padrão animal. Gosto de castanho no Inverno, é escuro e elegante, mas consegue ser também um bocadinho aborrecido, por vezes: outro apontamento de cor é sempre bem-vindo.

My outfit #7 - A grey day

I let the grey weather come into my outfit. I decided that I wanted to look elegant today and had the silly feeling that it wasn't going to be so cold. It was as cold as usual, of course, and I regretted the lack of wool, but I was happy with the mirror.


The pencil skirt has been in my closet for over 20 years and it's a dark navy blue, a color hard to find, but I managed to find tights with the same exact shade. I've heard about the rule that tights should be the same color as the shoes, but I think that if they are the same color of the skirt they elongate our legs and that's what I do. The same black booties I wore yesterday were a good choice for footware.













The grey jumper was way too thin, but the stronger shade of blue in the scarf did more than just pop color: it warmed my poor neck nicely. The coat was yet another shade of blue, more to the navy side, and the long earrings added even more blue, but a shiny one.

This winter, I've been wearing quite a lot of same color layers, mixing shades instead of colors, especially when it comes to blues and greys. I find this easier to do, when the low temperatures demand layers of clothing for protection, and also an elegant (and simple!) way of creating an outfit early in the morning, not requiring too much thought.

Deixei o cinzento do tempo entrar na minha roupa. Decidi que queria ter um ar elegante, hoje, e tive tonta sensação de que o tempo não estaria tão frio. Esteve tão frio como de costume, claro, e arrependi-me de não vestir lã, mas fiquei contente com o espelho.

A saia justa está no meu armário há mais de 20 anos e é de um azul-escuro mesmo escuro, uma cor difícil de encontrar, mas lá consegui encontrar meias da mesma cor. Tenho conhecimento da regra que diz que as meias devem ser da cor dos sapatos, mas acho que se forem da cor da saia alongam mais as pernas e é assim mesmo que me visto. Os mesmos botins preto que usei ontem foram uma boa escolha para os pés.

A camisola cinza era demasiado fininha, mas o tom de azul mais forte do cachecol fez mais do que apenas juntar cor: aqueceu bem o meu pobre pescoço. O casaco era de um outro tom de azul, mais para o escuro, e os brincos compridos acrescentaram ainda mais azul, mas com brilho.

Este Inverno, tenho usado muitas vezes camadas da mesma cor, misturando tons em vez de cores, especialmente com azuis e cinzas. Acho que é mais fácil fazer assim, quando as baixas temperaturas exigem roupa em camadas, e é também uma forma elegante (e simples!) de criar um conjunto de manhã cedo, sem ser preciso pensar muito.

My outfit #5 - Teal saturday

Saturdays are quite often family-lunch days at B. parents' home and a time do dress up just a tiny little bit. We had a storm in Lisbon, today, and for the very first time in my whole life, my umbrella was destroyed by the wind. It was heartbreaking to see my favourite (and best) umbrella thorn apart like that. At least, I have an excuse to got shopping for a new one...



Not only it was a rainy day, but also a rather cold one, so I really wanted to go for the woolen pieces in my closet, but didn't want to look too gloomy, so I picked up a charcoal skirt with matching tights and boots but chose different shades of teal for the upper part. I wore 3 layers of teal, the lighter one being the scarf. I keept in mind Coco Chanel's statement that darker colours age our faces, so I went darker on the body and lighter next to the head. The skirt is quite unforgiving, so I wore a loose and sleeveless jumper over it and added a little interest with the scarf.

As I've mentioned before, I love plaid. And I happen to own an old jacket just with the right colours: grey and white, with a little red and teal. This was just what it took to make it an ensemble. The jewelry played a part too, from the watch to the earrings. I love bold statement earrings, but I belive they dont't go very well with necklaces, so this was the moment to wear these. I'm very fond of these earrings because they were the first I made for myself and are extra-light, therefore perfect for a whole day activity. As usual on family moments, the make up is neutral and natural.

Os sábados são frequentemente dias de almoço de família na casa dos pais do B. e são também ocasião para me aperaltar só um bocadinho pequenino. Hoje, tivemos uma tempestade em Lisboa e pela primeira vez na vida o meu chapéu-de-chuva foi totalmente destruído pelo vento. Foi um desgosto ver o meu chapéu-de-chuva preferido (e o melhor) despedaçado daquela maneira. Pelo menos sempre tenho desculpa para comprar um novo...

O dia não foi apenas chuvoso, mas também frio, e por isso queria usar peças de lã, mas não queria ter um ar demasiado sombrio. Por isso, escolhi uma saia cinza escuro, com collants e botas a condizer, mas preferi vários tons de azul-petróleo para a parte de cima. Usei 3 camadas de azul diferentes, sendo que a mais clara é a do cachecol. Lembrei-me da afirmação de Coco Chanel, que dizia que as cores escuras nos envelhecem o rosto, e por isso a parte mais escura foi para o corpo e a mais leve para a cabeça. A saia não perdoa nadinha, por isso usei uma camisola sem mangas e bastante solta por cima e acrescentei algum interesse com o cachecol.

Como já antes disse, adoro o tartan. E acontece que tenho um casaco já antigo com as cores certas: cinza e branco, com um toque de vermelho e de azul-petróleo. Foi tudo o que era necessário para criar um verdadeiro conjunto. A bijuteria teve um papel importante, desde o relógio aos brincos. Adoro brincos arrojados e grandes, mas acho que não ficam bem com colares, por isso este foi o momento certo para usar estes. Tenho um carinho especial por estes brincos, porque foram os primeiros que fiz para mim e são extra-leves, o que os torna perfeitos para andar um dia inteiro. Como é costume nas ocasiões familiares, a maquilhagem é neutra e natural.

Christmas looks: lunch on Christmas Day

I had to have my own take on family lunches and diners at Christmas time... So I'll be sharing a few sets that can help all of us dressing up for the occasion these days.

Chic Plaid!

Plaid is an absolute trend this Fall/Winter, but it doesn't have to be a baggy shirt over jeans. As a matter os fact, it shouldn't be after you leave college and least of all over 40. So I have a few looks on "chic plaid", keeping it classy while trendy.

O tartan é uma tendência absoluta este Outono/Inverno, mas não tem que ser uma camisa larga sobre jeans. Na realidade, não deveria mesmo sê-lo depois de deixarmos a faculdade e muito menos quando se tem mais de 40 anos. Por isso trago aqui alguns looks de "tartan chique", que permite manter a classe e seguir as tendências.

Style for loosing weight women - Estilo para mulheres que estão a perder peso

I've prepared a look that will be useful to every woman going through the weight loss process and need to put their money in simple pieces, complemented by a good use of accessories, because in that time of life is useless to spend money on clothes that will become out of size.

Preparei uma sugestão que serve para todas as mulheres que estão no processo de perder peso e que precisam de apostar em peças simples, complementadas por acessórios, porque é uma fase da vida em que não vale mesmo a pena gastar dinheiro em roupa que deixará de servir em breve.



The base of the outfit are  some basic black trousers, paired with a trendy jumper, updating the kook. I've chosen this cobalt blue because it's one this fall/winter colours, but is's easy replaced by any strog, contrasting colour you might have already.

The secret here is to keep it simple, play with colour and build layers. On a colder day we may choose a white carding to go with the jumper, we may wear a blak, frey or whiet coat and choose a colourful carding and matching accessories... Is's a basic yet versatile look that will long a long way, exactly what you'll need at that stage of your life.

A base são umas calças pretas básicas e a camisola é a peça de tendência, que actualiza mais o visual. Escolhi este tom de azul cobalto por ser uma das cores deste outono/inverno, mas pode perfeitamente ser substituído por qualquer cor forte e contrastante que tenham mais disponível.

O segredo, neste look, é manter a simplicidade, jogar com as cores e ir construindo camadas. Num dia mais frio podemos optar por um cardigan branco sobre a camisola, podemos utilizar um casaco comprido preto ou cinza ou branco e escolher um cardigan colorido e os acessórios no mesmo tom... É um look básico mas muito versátil, e isso é exactamente o que se precisa nessa fase da vida.
