Minnie Mouse Mood!

A few days ago, my 7 year-old niece told me that she thought this trenchcoat was like as if it was Minnie Mouse's. I found that so funny that I decided I'd be like Minnie Mouse for a day, minus the red bow!

I've had this polka dot trenchcoat for a few winters, but it's quite light and only get to wear it in spring or fall, the 2 seasons that seem to be on the verge of extinction on this part of the world. In my Minnie Mouse mood, I paired it with black and red, of course, and the silhouette had to be fuller and more like the 50's. My shoes were flatter than Minnie's: since I've got real feet and was out and about all day, I needed comfort more than anything. As far as feet go, I'm more the Cinderella type...

This outfit makes me look a little wider at the bottom, but it was worth it: looking like a Minnie wannabe takes a toll I'd pay anyday. Have fun, mostly in cartoonish ways!

Há alguns dias, a minha sobrinha de 7 anos disse-me que achava que esta gabardina era como se fosse da Minnie. Achei aquilo tão engraçado que resolvi que iria ser como a Minnie por um dia, mas sem o laço vermelho!

Tenho esta gabardina às bolas há alguns invernos, mas é bastante leve e só consigo usá-la na primavera ou no outono, as 2 estações que parecem estar à beira da extinção por estes lados do mundo. No meu modo de Minnie, fiz conjunto com preto e vermelho, claro, e a silhueta tinha que ser mais cheia e mais à moda dos anos 50. Os sapatos são mais rasos do que os da Minnie: dado que tenho pés verdadeiros e andei todo o dia na rua, precisava de conforto acima de tudo. No que respeita a pés, sou mais do tipo Cinderela...

Este conjunto faz-me parecer um pouco mais larga na parte inferior, mas valeu a pena: parecer uma aspirante a Minnie tem um preço que estou sempre disposta a pagar. Divirtam-se, sobretudo como nos desenhos animados!

A blush top for a birthday party

Last weekend we had one of my nephew's birthday party and I didn't feel like wearing a dress, so I picked up some very old and very loose trousers and added a blush top. So far, so simple, right?

I love blush, I think it's elegant and classy but still warm and kind on pale skin, so I'm loving the trend this year. The top is a cardigan turned into a jumper, but the lace detail on top makes a huge difference: it's feminine and delicate and absolutely perfect for me.



The blush pendant was a gift from my godmother, years ago, and I knew it was something of a show off when I took it to my mother's doctor appointment and the attending nurse couldn't take her eyes off it. The photos don't do it justice, by any means.

The sandals are old Zara, from when blush was not in fashion, but they're not very comfortable and only get out of the house when I'm sure I won't be walking a lot.

The wind was blowing strong and I wasn't having the best hair day, so the little up-do was quite necessary. This outfit wouldn't have been the same without the golden rose make up. As I'm getting older, I've been more and more of gold and warm tones on my skin, eyes included. This time, the blush was just asking for a light make up and even my freckles were invited in.

No fim de semana passado tivemos a festa de aniversário de um dos meus sobrinhos e não me apetecia usar um vestido, por isso agarrei numas calças muito antigas e muito largas e juntei-lhes um top cor de salmão claro. Até agora, muito simples, certo?

Adoro esta cor, é elegante e sofisticada mas ainda assim quente e favorece a pele pálida, pelo que estou a adorar a tendência este ano. O top é um cardigan transformado em camisola, mas o detalhe de renda em cima faz uma diferença enorme: é feminino, delicado e absolutamente perfeito para mim.

O pendente rosado foi uma prenda da minha madrinha, há anos, e já sabia que dá nas vistas desde o dia em que levei a minha mãe a uma consulta e a enfermeira não tirava os olhos dele. As fotos não lhe fazem justiça, nem por sombras.

As sandálias são da Zara, da época em que o rosado não era moda, mas não são lá muito confortáveis e só saem de casa quando tenho a certeza que não vou andar muito a pé.
O vento soprava com força e o meu cabelo não estava grande coisa, por isso era mesmo necessário fazer um pequeno apanhado.

O conjunto não teria sido o mesmo sem a maquilhagem rosa e dourada. À medida que vou ficando mais velha, cada vez gosto mais de tons dourados e quentes na maquilhagem, incluindo os olhos. Desta vez, a cor de salmão pedia uma maquilhagem luminosa e até as minhas sardas foram convidadas.

A mint way to hide a scar

I've mentioned quite a few times that my heart surgery left me an ugly scar across my chest and the truth is that I've been having a lot of grief over it. Maybe I'll feel differently some day, but for now that scar only means that I can't wear my favourite clothes (I love a deep cleavage!), that I can't be in the sun, that I won't be able to go to the beach this summer... It's hard to cope with the thought that my body is damaged and that reminder with be here forever.

Not wanting to give up on beauty and fashion, imagination is put to the test: higher necklines and scarves are my best friends but it's getting hot during the day and now I found a new helper: bib necklaces! They must be big enough, have the right V shape and be thick (to prevent skin burns due to the sun), but they're fun to wear and give just a TCHARAN! effect that I love.

Today, I wore a mint necklace I bought a few days before surgery and built the outfit around it: mint light cardigan, white top, dark jeans and a teal clutch, just to make it a little more colorful.

The weather has been perfect these days and the light is pouring into our homes, as you can see in the photos. Spring in Portugal is a time everybody should enjoy someday.

Já referi algumas vezes que a minha cirurgia cardíaca me deixou uma cicatriz bem feia no meio do peito e a verdade é que tenho tido um grande desgosto por isso. Talvez um dia sinta as coisas de outra forma, mas, para já, esta cicatriz significa que não posso usar as minhas roupas preferidas (adoro um decote pronunciado!), que não posso apanhar sol, que não vou poder ir à praia este verão... É difícil aceitar a ideia de que o meu corpo está danificado e que este lembrete ficará aqui para sempre.

Não querendo desistir da beleza e da moda, a imaginação é posta à prova: decotes subidos e lenços são os meus melhores amigos, mas já está calor durante o dia e encontrei uma nova ajuda: os colares tipo babete! Têm de ser suficientemente grandes, terem a forma de V e serem espessos (para evitar as queimaduras solares), mas são divertidos de usar e dão aquele efeito TCHARAN! que adoro.

Hoje, usei um colar cor de menta (ou verde-água) que comprei alguns dias antes da cirurgia e organizei o conjunto a partir dele: casaco leve cor de menta, top branco, jeans escuros e uma clutch azul-petróleo, só para juntar mais cor.

O tempo tem estado perfeito e a luz jorra para dentro das nossas casas, como podem ver nas fotos. A primavera em Portugal é um tempo que todos deveriam desfrutar um dia.

Warm day, cold night

 This post came to my mind the other day, when I really felt that I didn't have anything to wear... Warm spring days and cold evenings and nights are quite a challenge these days. So I decided to keep things simple: grey jeggings and white jumper would be just fine for the day. But then yet another question bothered me: which white jumper? I ended up wearing 2 in a 12 hours period!

The daytime jumper had a few pastel details and was light enough for the 22º C outside. I matched it with a simple necklace but in the same exact colors of the jumper. I do have a problem with this scoop neckline (I find it too plane), but it's perfect to hide the heart surgery scar, so I manage to cope with it by adding jewelry or scarves.

The evening jumper was part of the winter wardrobe and I can remember wearing it in january, but I'm a chilly kind of girl and there it went, with just a change from the pastels necklace to a black pendant: if it's wintery, let's go winter all the way.

How do you manage to dress for both warm and cold weather?

Este post ocorreu-me no outro dia, quando realmente senti que não tinha nada para vestir... Os dias quentes da primavera juntamente com as noites frias são um belo desafio nesta época. Resolvi manter a simplicidade: jeggings cinzentas e uma camisola branca estariam bem, mas fui assaltada por outra questão: qual das camisolas brancas? Acabei por usar 2 num período de 12 horas!



A camisola do dia tinha uns detalhes em cores pastel e era suficientemente leve para os 22º C da rua. Combinei-a com um colar simples mas que tem as cores exactamente iguais às da camisola. Tenho um problema sério com decotes redondos (acho-os demasiado simples), mas são perfeitos para esconder a cicatriz da cirurgia cardíaca, por isso lá me vou desvencilhando com bijuteria e lenços. 

A camisola da noite é mesmo parte do guarda-roupa de inverno e lembro-me de tê-la usado em janeiro, mas sou uma rapariga friorenta e lá veio ela, com a mudança do colar pastel para um pendente preto: se é para ser de inverno, que seja a sério.

Going floral by the river

Just a quick post to show how I styled a floral top on a very warm, sunny and laid back day. Me and B. went out to have lunch and spent a few hours by the river Sado. It was a wonderful afternoon, absolutely perfect! I love the light we have in Portugal, when the sun shines and everything looks vibrant and joyful.

I was aware of the walking we'd be doing, so I went for flat shoes and a shoulder bag, both black and so old I think I'm allowed to say they're vintage. I got this floral top at Promod a few weeks ago, but the weather made it impossible to wear it before. This top is perfect for a number of reasons: its beautiful print screams springtime, the sleeves are great for warm but not hot weather and the neckline is high enough to hide my scar. The black lace details add just that even more feminine touch I like so much.

Jeans were in order with just the right simplicity to go with so many flowers. The statement piece I chose were the also very old earrings. How lucky was I for them to have just the right colors?

Este é apenas um breve post para mostrar como vesti um top floral num dia quente, solarento e bem descontraído. Eu e o B. fomos almoçar fora e passar algumas horas junto ao rio, no Sado. Estava uma tarde fantástica, absolutamente perfeita! Adoro a luz que temos em Portugal, quando o sol brilha e tudo parece brilhante e cheio de alegria.

Sabia que iríamos andar bastante e pé, por isso escolhi sapatos de salto raso e uma mala de ombro, ambos tão antigos que acho que já posso chamar-lhes vintage. Comprei este top floral na Promod há algumas semanas, mas o mau tempo não tinha deixado usá-lo antes. Este top é perfeito por várias razões: é lindo e o padrão é todo primaveril, as mangas são óptimas para uma temperatura que é quente mas não demais e o decote é fechado que chegue para esconder a minha cicatriz. A renda preta nos detalhes acrescenta ainda mais o toque feminino que gosto.

Os jeans eram a peça certa, suficientemente simples para acompanharem tantas flores. A peça especial que escolhi foram os brincos, também eles muito velhinhos. Tive ou não tive sorte em encontrar uns que tivessem exactamente as cores certas?

Beeeeeeeeeeee happy!

Whenever I mix yellow and black, I can't get away from the bee inside my head and end up mixing yellow with some other color. But today I set my mind into this combo and we went all the way (meaning I actually left home wearing it...).

The weather has been crazy lately and most of the days I still feel the need to wear a warmer piece, such as a cardigan or a blazer, and my boots are always on call for at least another month. But I'm fed up with winter colors and most of my clothes don't fit me anymore. I've lost a lot of weight, as I mentioned last time, and my hunt for a new wardrobe does not include winter pieces. So, I'm getting by with what still fits and with some new friends that are coming home these days.

Today's outfit is just the perfect example: the black trousers are too loose, but I paired them with a tight top and a cropped cardigan, which add some balance to an otherwise baggy outfit. The neckline is just high enough to hide my surgery scar and make me feel comfortable about it.  I chose the cropped cardigan so the yellow could be seen even from the back and had more visual impact. The main piece of jewelry is a czech yellowish crystal I brought from Prague years ago and really gives the more chic look.  If I wanted a more casual look, I'd be matching the outfit with big yellow earrings and a large bag.

Quando misturo  amarelo e preto não consigo afastar a abelha que está na minha mente e acabo a combinar o amarelo com outra cor qualquer. Mas hoje decidi-me mesmo e fomos até ao fim (quer dizer, saí mesmo de casa assim vestida...).

O tempo tem estado louco ultimamente e quase todos os dias sinto ainda necessidade de usar uma peça mais quentinha, como um cardigan ou um blazer, e as botas ainda vão estar ao serviço durante pelo menos um mês. Mas estou cansada das cores de inverno e a maior parte das minhas roupas deixou de me servir. Perdi muito peso recentemente, como referi no último post, e a minha caçada ao novo guarda-roupa não inclui peças de inverno. Por isso, vou usando o que ainda me serve e alguns novos amigos que têm vindo cá para casa por estes dias.

O conjunto de hoje é o exemplo certo: as calças pretas estão demasiado folgadas, mas combinei-as com um top justo e um bolero, o que dá um certo equilíbrio a um conjunto que seria demasiado largo. O decote é suficientemente alto para esconder a costura cirúrgica e deixar-me confortável. Escolhi o bolero porque assim o amarelo é visível mesmo pelas costas e tem maior impacto visual.  A principal peça de bijuteria é um cristal checo que trouxe de Praga há alguns anos e realmente acrescenta um toque chique. Se quisesse um visual mais descontraído, trocava o cristal por uns brincos amarelos e volumosos e uma mala grande.

I'm back!

After the surgery, after the worst part of recovery, after having been to hell, I'm back!

It's been quite an ordeal to live these couple of months. The first 4 weeks were so bad that I wished I was dead, but of course I wasn't, so here I am, back on my feet and into my clothes.

I wore a lot of "home clothing" lately: you know, baggy sweat pants, loose jumpers and that sort. I didn't feel like putting on make up or taking the time (and the efford!) to look any better. Over the past 2 weeks, I started to go out more and the old "fashion bug" came back.

There are a couple of changes in my body that will make me change my style: I lost a lot of weight in less than 6 months and I have a nasty scar across my chest. So, no more cleavages for me, and I'll be showing a few ideas on how to hide heart surgery scars. On the bright side, I must change my entire wardrobe (shopping, here I go!) and I can wear clothes that didn't fit me before.

So, here I'm, in my navy look, wearing my stripes. I love the navy trend and, from what I've seen, it will go a long way this summer. The neckline is just enough to cover the scar and I'm very pleased to be wearing horizontal stripes, something that would look terrible on before.

Red is the perfect color to add to a navy look, classical and still bold. I'm sure I'll be wearing this jumper a lot and I have a few ideas to style it in other ways. Dark denim jeans (the only ones that still fit me...) are just right here and I chose red jewerly to bring more light to the outfit. The red cardigan and the bag I love so much add the touch of color that I wanted.

Depois da cirurgia, depois da pior parte da recuperação, depois de ter descido ao inferno, estou de volta!

Tem sido uma provação, viver estes 2 meses. As primeiras 4 semanas foram tão más que desejava estar morta, mas claro que não estava, e por isso estou de volta, e também de regresso às minhas roupas.

Usei muita "roupa de andar por casa" nos últimos tempos: calças de fato de treino largas, camisolas soltas e coisas desse género. Não me apetecia usar maquilhagem nem dar-me ao trabalho (e ao esforço!) de ter uma aparência melhor. Nas últimas 2 semanas, comecei a sair mais  e o velho "bichinho da moda" regressou.

Há algumas mudanças no meu corpo que irão fazer-me mudar o meu estilo.: perdi muito peso nos últimos 6 meses e tenho uma cicatriz feia no meio do meu peito. Por isso, acabaram-se os decotes para mim, e irei mostrar algumas ideias sobre como esconder a cicatriz de cirurgia cardíaca. Pelo lado bom, tenho que mudar todo o meu guarda-roupa (compras, aí vou eu!) e posso usar roupas que antes me ficavam mal.

Aqui estou eu, no meu estilo marinheiro, usando as minhas riscas. Adoro a tendência náutica e, pelo que tenho visto, vai estar em grande neste verão. O decote é apenas o suficiente para tapar a cicatriz e estou muito contente por poder usar riscas horizontais, algo que antes me ficaria muito mal.

O vermelho é a cor perfeita para usar com a tendência náutica, clássica mas também atrevida. Tenho a certeza de ir usar muito esta camisola e tenho ideias sobre como combiná-la de outras formas. Calças de ganga escura (as únicas que ainda me servem...) ficam perfeitas e escolhi bijuteria vermelha para dar mais brilho ao conjunto. O cardigan vermelho e a mala que tanto adoro acrescentam o toque de cor que pretendia.

Divirtam-se todos! A vida é simplesmente demasiado frágil e demasiado curta para se viver ser riso e sem diversão...
