Beeeeeeeeeeee happy!

Whenever I mix yellow and black, I can't get away from the bee inside my head and end up mixing yellow with some other color. But today I set my mind into this combo and we went all the way (meaning I actually left home wearing it...).

The weather has been crazy lately and most of the days I still feel the need to wear a warmer piece, such as a cardigan or a blazer, and my boots are always on call for at least another month. But I'm fed up with winter colors and most of my clothes don't fit me anymore. I've lost a lot of weight, as I mentioned last time, and my hunt for a new wardrobe does not include winter pieces. So, I'm getting by with what still fits and with some new friends that are coming home these days.

Today's outfit is just the perfect example: the black trousers are too loose, but I paired them with a tight top and a cropped cardigan, which add some balance to an otherwise baggy outfit. The neckline is just high enough to hide my surgery scar and make me feel comfortable about it.  I chose the cropped cardigan so the yellow could be seen even from the back and had more visual impact. The main piece of jewelry is a czech yellowish crystal I brought from Prague years ago and really gives the more chic look.  If I wanted a more casual look, I'd be matching the outfit with big yellow earrings and a large bag.

Quando misturo  amarelo e preto não consigo afastar a abelha que está na minha mente e acabo a combinar o amarelo com outra cor qualquer. Mas hoje decidi-me mesmo e fomos até ao fim (quer dizer, saí mesmo de casa assim vestida...).

O tempo tem estado louco ultimamente e quase todos os dias sinto ainda necessidade de usar uma peça mais quentinha, como um cardigan ou um blazer, e as botas ainda vão estar ao serviço durante pelo menos um mês. Mas estou cansada das cores de inverno e a maior parte das minhas roupas deixou de me servir. Perdi muito peso recentemente, como referi no último post, e a minha caçada ao novo guarda-roupa não inclui peças de inverno. Por isso, vou usando o que ainda me serve e alguns novos amigos que têm vindo cá para casa por estes dias.

O conjunto de hoje é o exemplo certo: as calças pretas estão demasiado folgadas, mas combinei-as com um top justo e um bolero, o que dá um certo equilíbrio a um conjunto que seria demasiado largo. O decote é suficientemente alto para esconder a costura cirúrgica e deixar-me confortável. Escolhi o bolero porque assim o amarelo é visível mesmo pelas costas e tem maior impacto visual.  A principal peça de bijuteria é um cristal checo que trouxe de Praga há alguns anos e realmente acrescenta um toque chique. Se quisesse um visual mais descontraído, trocava o cristal por uns brincos amarelos e volumosos e uma mala grande.

I'm back!

After the surgery, after the worst part of recovery, after having been to hell, I'm back!

It's been quite an ordeal to live these couple of months. The first 4 weeks were so bad that I wished I was dead, but of course I wasn't, so here I am, back on my feet and into my clothes.

I wore a lot of "home clothing" lately: you know, baggy sweat pants, loose jumpers and that sort. I didn't feel like putting on make up or taking the time (and the efford!) to look any better. Over the past 2 weeks, I started to go out more and the old "fashion bug" came back.

There are a couple of changes in my body that will make me change my style: I lost a lot of weight in less than 6 months and I have a nasty scar across my chest. So, no more cleavages for me, and I'll be showing a few ideas on how to hide heart surgery scars. On the bright side, I must change my entire wardrobe (shopping, here I go!) and I can wear clothes that didn't fit me before.

So, here I'm, in my navy look, wearing my stripes. I love the navy trend and, from what I've seen, it will go a long way this summer. The neckline is just enough to cover the scar and I'm very pleased to be wearing horizontal stripes, something that would look terrible on before.

Red is the perfect color to add to a navy look, classical and still bold. I'm sure I'll be wearing this jumper a lot and I have a few ideas to style it in other ways. Dark denim jeans (the only ones that still fit me...) are just right here and I chose red jewerly to bring more light to the outfit. The red cardigan and the bag I love so much add the touch of color that I wanted.

Depois da cirurgia, depois da pior parte da recuperação, depois de ter descido ao inferno, estou de volta!

Tem sido uma provação, viver estes 2 meses. As primeiras 4 semanas foram tão más que desejava estar morta, mas claro que não estava, e por isso estou de volta, e também de regresso às minhas roupas.

Usei muita "roupa de andar por casa" nos últimos tempos: calças de fato de treino largas, camisolas soltas e coisas desse género. Não me apetecia usar maquilhagem nem dar-me ao trabalho (e ao esforço!) de ter uma aparência melhor. Nas últimas 2 semanas, comecei a sair mais  e o velho "bichinho da moda" regressou.

Há algumas mudanças no meu corpo que irão fazer-me mudar o meu estilo.: perdi muito peso nos últimos 6 meses e tenho uma cicatriz feia no meio do meu peito. Por isso, acabaram-se os decotes para mim, e irei mostrar algumas ideias sobre como esconder a cicatriz de cirurgia cardíaca. Pelo lado bom, tenho que mudar todo o meu guarda-roupa (compras, aí vou eu!) e posso usar roupas que antes me ficavam mal.

Aqui estou eu, no meu estilo marinheiro, usando as minhas riscas. Adoro a tendência náutica e, pelo que tenho visto, vai estar em grande neste verão. O decote é apenas o suficiente para tapar a cicatriz e estou muito contente por poder usar riscas horizontais, algo que antes me ficaria muito mal.

O vermelho é a cor perfeita para usar com a tendência náutica, clássica mas também atrevida. Tenho a certeza de ir usar muito esta camisola e tenho ideias sobre como combiná-la de outras formas. Calças de ganga escura (as únicas que ainda me servem...) ficam perfeitas e escolhi bijuteria vermelha para dar mais brilho ao conjunto. O cardigan vermelho e a mala que tanto adoro acrescentam o toque de cor que pretendia.

Divirtam-se todos! A vida é simplesmente demasiado frágil e demasiado curta para se viver ser riso e sem diversão...

A difficult moment

Dear friends,

I've been away for some time and it will take a few weeks until I'm abble to write here again. I'll be having open heart surgery in 2 days and my fashion sense has been off. When I do come back, I'll be having lots of suggestions on how to hide an ugly scar, but until then, keep me in your prayers.

Thank you all, wonderful ladies and gentlemen, for helping me remind that every day on this Earth is worth the while. See you soon...

Queridos amigos, 

Tenho estado ausente e ainda vai demorar algumas semanas até que esteja capaz de voltar a escrever aqui. Vou fazer uma cirurgia de coração aberto dentro de 2 dias e o meu sentido de moda e estilo tem estado dormente. Quando voltar, certamente terei muitas sugestões sobre como esconder uma cicatriz feia, mas até lá lembrem-se de mim nas vossas orações.

Obrigada a todos, maravilhosas senhoras e senhores, por me ajudarem a lembrar que cada dia na Terra vale bem a pena. Até breve...

Can red lips be casual?

I'm always a bit self conscious when it comes to wear red lips to work and I tend to go with red lipgloss instead of lipstick. But I do love to have a voluptuous mouth and the weekend is just perfect to show it off... Just make sure your eyes are kept simple and you can wear a red lip at any age.

Thee dark jeans were paired with a printed jumper (woolen, of course!) in red, grey and black. I have mixed feelings for it: I love the boldness and the colors, but its lenght may become a problem at times, since it's almost cropped. Anyway, in spite of the sporty spirit of it, I like the way it suits me and makes a good saturday mate.

The grey jacket has been in my closet for a long time, but I still enjy putting it on every now and then. It shares the difficulty with the jumper: both are quite short and require a bottom that flatters my behind. The red belt and bag add a pop of color and the thin belt accentuates my waist line. My natural waist is quite high on my torso, so I prefer thin belts when not wearing belts lower than my natural line.

Sorry for the poor photos, but my camera just fell to the ground and died on me. Dear phone, rescue my post! And it did, though with such results... Have fun!

Tenho sempre algum receio de usar lábios vermelhos no trabalho e tenho tendência a preferir o lipgloss vermelho em detrimento do batom. Mas adoro ter uma boca voluptuosa e o fim-de-semana é perfeito para isso... Só é preciso ter em atenção que os olhos se mantêm simples e podemos usar lábios vermelhos em qualquer idade.

Os jeans escuros foram combinados com uma camisola de padrão (de lã, claro!) em vermelho, cinza e preto. Os meus sentimentos por esta camisola são confusos: adoro uma certa ousadia e as cores, mas o comprimento pode tornar-se problemático, pois é muito curta. Em todo o caso, e apesar de ser um pouco desportiva, gosto da forma como me assenta e é uma boa companheira de sábado.

O casaco cinzento está no meu armário há muito tempo, mas ainda gosto de usá-lo ocasionalmente. Partilha a dificuldade com a camisola: são ambos bastante curtos e precisam de uma parte de baixo que me favoreça o traseiro. O cinto vermelho e a mala dão o toque de cor e o cinto estreito acentua a cintura. A minha cintura é naturalmente alta, no tronco, e por isso prefiro cintos fininhos quando não são para usar abaixo da linha natural.

Desculpem a pobreza das fotos, mas a minha máquina caiu ao chão e morreu. Querido telemóvel, salva o meu post! E ele salvou, embora com os resultados que se vêem... Divirtam-se!

My outfit #13 - The importance of being... Scarf!

I have an old maxi skirt that I'll be giving to charity soon, since it's too large for me now, but I love it so much that I wanted to say a proper goodbye to it. It's a little silly, I'm aware of it...

It's a purple skirt and I matched it with a lighter purple top, a black woolen blazer and black booties and bag. It would  have been a rather dull outfit, but I remembered my purple scarf and that was it. This scarf is not only purple, but also light golden and silver and doubles as scarf and statement necklace. I got it a few years ago at Oxford, as well as the purple top. How I miss shopping in England!

Another "statement piece" today was my make up. It was a mix of light pink, purple and grey, just the right shades for my outfit. I'm not a fan of dark colors on my eyes, at least for daytime, and I'm always very pleased when I manage to pull off a light yet sophisticated make up.

Tenho uma velha saia maxi que dou doar brevemente porque está a ficar-me muito grande, mas gosto tanto dela que queria despedir-me dela  como deve ser. Eu sei, é um bocado pateta...

É uma saia roxa e combinei-a com uma camisola de um roxo mais claro, um blazer preto, botins pretos e mala também preta. Teria sido um conjunto bem sem graça, mas lembrei-me do meu lenço roxo e ficou resolvido. Este lenço não é apenas roxo e tem também dourado claro e prateado, o que faz dele simultaneamente lenço e colar grande. Comprei-o há alguns anos em Oxford, bem como à camisola. As saudades que eu tenho de fazer compras em Inglaterra!

Outra "peça ousada" foi a maquilhagem. É uma mistura de rosa claro, roxo e cinza, exactamente as cores certas para este conjunto. Não gosto muito de cores escuras nos olhos, pelo menos para o dia, e fico sempre muito satisfeita quando consigo arranjar uma maquilhagem clarinha mas sofisticada.

My outfit #12 - Cape day!

I got this cape at a street fair before Christmas because I fell in love with the colors and also because I thought it was a good way to do plaid, one of my favorite trends ever. The large collar is  begging for a brooch, so I made one to match the lighter color of the fabric (I actually made it myself!).

The dark grey jeans and the white jumper are the most common and simple pieces one can ever wear during winter. Can you imagine anything more "plain Jane" than this? But, since I'm not a plain Jane myself, I tried to bring it to planet elegance...

The trendy cape, a long uneven pearl necklace and a small vintage bag were my allies. It's all about details and accessories.

Comprei esta capa numa feira de rua antes do Natal porque me apaixonei pelas cores e também porque pensei que seria uma boa forma de usar o tartan, uma das minhas tendências preferidas de todos os tempos. A grande gola suplica um alfinete de peito e por isso fiz-lhe um a condizer com a cor mais clara do tecido (e fui eu mesma que fiz!).

Os jeans em cinza escuro e a camisola branca são as peças mais vulgares e simples que se podem usar no Inverno. Conseguem pensar em algo mais "Maria-sem-graça" do que isto? Mas, dado que eu mesma não sou uma "Maria-sem-graça", tentei trazer o conjunto para o planeta elegância... 

A capa bem actual, um longo e assimétrico colar de pérolas e uma pequena mala vintage foram os meus aliados. É tudo uma questão de detalhes e de acessórios.

My outfit #11 - Errands time

We all have to do it sometimes, but I deeply dislike running errands. When I really, really must go and can't delay it any longer, I spend an entire half a day at it. I had the aftertoon off today, and there I went, sad and lonely...

When I know I have a busy day ahead, I pay very close attention to my feet: comfy shoes are the first to be picked and become the most important piece of the outfit. These grey shoes are great: a high enough heel to make me feel elegant and tall, but also very comfortable and steady for walking. Wonderful shoes, indeed!

Grey jeans and a grey long cardigan match the shoes, but I was feeling like having color, so I wore a purplish jumper with a very large collar, something of a bib collar, really. It gave me not just the pop of color I was going for, but also some visual interest to the bust line. When an outfit is as simple as this, a different cleavage or a ruffle or a special embellishment can make a difference and add a touch of refinement. 

The bag is a recent buy and I love it: the golden spikes make it stand out and it's large enough to endure the huge load I stuff in it every single time I wear it... The earrings are just the perfect color for this jumper and they are also my favourite shape: the long and lean tear drops favour faces like mine, smaller on the lower half. 

As a special bonus to my boring afternoon, the sun came out and I was able to take the photos with real sunlight. Finally!

Todos temos que passar por isso de vez em quando, mas não gosto mesmo nada de fazer recados e tratar de assuntos pendentes. Quando tem mesmo, mesmo, que ser e já não posso adiar mais, gasto meio-dia nessa tarefa. Tinha a tarde de folga, hoje, e lá fui eu, triste e solitária...

Quando sei que tenho um dia cheio pela frente, escolho o calçado com a máxima atenção: sapatos confortáveis são a primeira e mais importante peça de vestuário. Estes sapatos cinzentos são óptimos: o salto é suficientemente alto para me fazer sentir alta e elegante, mas são estáveis e bons para andar. Excelentes sapatos, na verdade!

Jeans cinza e um cardigan longo e igualmente cinza combinam com os sapatos, mas apetecia-me usar algo colorido e usei uma camisola de um tom de púrpura com uma gola muito grande. A camisola deu não apenas a cor que fazia falta, mas também algum interesse à zona do peito. Quando um conjunto é tão simples como este, um decote diferente, um folho ou um enfeite podem fazer a diferença e acrescentar um toque de sofisticação.

A mala é uma compra recente e adoro-a: as aplicações douradas fazem-na sobressair e é suficientemente grande para suportar a carga que lhe ponho dentro de todas as vezes que a uso... Os brincos têm a cor perfeita para a camisola e têm também o formato ideal: as gotas longas e estreitas favorecem um rosto como o meu, que é mais estreito na parte inferior.

Como bónus especial para a minha tarde entediante, o Sol apareceu e pude tirar as fotos com luz solar. Finalmente!
