My outfit #6 - Lady in red

It's been a particularly grey day around here, rainy and cold and the kind of day you only wish to stay home. But we didn't... Myself, B. and a friend of his went out to watch a major football game on TV at one of our local coffee shops. This kind of sunday doesn't ask for an elaborate outfit, but I'm not one to go out too sporty, so I made up a sporty style of my own.

I wore a red woolen dress that I absolutely love with a black jumper for warmth and added black leggings. This gave my too-mini dress a certain sense of properness and turned an otherwise too girly piece into something I'm comfortable in. And goes to show how older girls can wear leggings and look good. It felt so good, underneath all that wool!

I ended up with a coat I had left in the closet for over a year and now I find myself wearing it over and over. You can see it here as well. It's black and white for the most part, but its thin teal and red stripes make it a good match for many outfits, especially since plaid came into fashion like a hurricane.

I love statement jewelry, but I think big red earrings are enough today. And finally, I get to show you my new booties. I got them in Spain, in Talavera de la Reina, and they are very comfortable, in spite of the high heel. I always thought booties were best styled with jeans or trousers, but elegant ones are proving themselves worthy of being shown off with dresses and skirts. For us, 40+ girls, the right booties can add some youthfulness to an outfit but keep style and elegance.

O dia hoje está particularmente cinzento, chuvoso e frio, exactamente o tipo de dia no qual se quer ficar em casa. Mas nós não ficámos… Eu, o B. e um amigo dele fomos ver um grande jogo de futebol na televisão, no café aqui perto. Este é o tipo de domingo que não pede uma roupa elaborada, mas não sou mulher de andar demasiado desportiva e por isso inventei um estilo desportivo só meu.

Usei um vestido vermelho de lã que adoro e juntei-lhe uma camisola preta para ficar mais quentinho e ainda umas leggings pretas. Isto proporcionou ao meu vestido demasiado mini um certo ar mais adequado e transformou uma peça que seria demasiado agarotada em algo no qual me sinto bem. E ainda mostra como as raparigas mais velhas podem usar leggings e ter um ar óptimo. Estava tão bem sob aquela lã toda!

Acabei por usar um casaco que tinha deixado no armário durante mais de um ano e agora dou comigo a usá-lo muito. Podem vê-lo aqui também. É sobretudo preto e branco, mas tem também riscas finas vermelhas e azul-petróleo que o tornam numa boa aposta para vários conjuntos, especialmente desde que o tartan invadiu a moda como um furacão.

Adoro bijuteria ousada, mas acho que brincos grandes e vermelhos são suficientes para hoje. E finalmente consigo mostrar-vos os meus novos botins. Comprei-os em Espanha, em Talavera de la Reina, e são muito confortáveis, apesar do salto alto. Sempre achei que os botins ficavam melhor com calças, mas os que são elegantes como estes andam a provar-me que são dignos de saias e vestidos. Para nós, raparigas de 40+, podem mesmo ser a forma de acrescentar frescura a um conjunto, mantendo o estilo e a elegância.

A few days ago, I went to Colombo to stroll around the sales, and I was quite dissapointed until I went into Carpisa. My buys were 2 great bags for about €20,00 each, which means 50% off. The colors I ended up with were grey and green, as seen on the last 2 pics.

Há uns dias, fui ao Colombo para dar uma voltinha pelos saldos e estava bastante desapontada até ter entrado na Carpisa. Comprei 2 malas a cerca de €20,00 cada uma, com 50% de desconto. Acabei por escolher o cinza e o verde, como podem ver nas últimas 2 fotos.

Dark jeans and options

This is a post especially thought for some of my Facebook friends, who are going through a hard wardrobe time.
The basic is a pair of dark jeans, and this is as basic as basic gets. Over the jeans, the kind of top everybody owns: white, black or striped. All items are for sale in Portugal and in stores easy to access. And then is when the fun begins, playing with colors and textures.

To the left, a cropped jacket helps lighten up the look, with its abstract print. The red adds the pop of color. Of course, any other color would do, it's just a matter of having some.
In the middle, the leopard print does all the work and it's simply a question of how a simple pattern can change an outfit. Another animal print or any other bold print would be fine as well.
To the right, my personal favorite. 2 different black and white patterns, a huge color statement in yellow and classy jewelry to prevent it from being too youngish. Any prints and any color would suffice and it’s really all about good sense, so it doesn’t become too much.

Este post é especialmente pensado para algumas das minhas amigas do Facebook, que estão a passar por uma época difícil em termos de roupa.  

A peça básica é um par de jeans e isto é o mais básico que pode haver. Sobre os jeans, o tipo de parte de cima que todas temos: branco, preto ou riscas. Todas as peças estão à venda em Portugal e em lojas de fácil acesso. E é aqui que a diversão começa, jogando com as cores e texturas.

À esquerda, um casaco curto ajuda a tornar o look mais claro com um padrão abstracto. O vermelho acrescenta o toque de cor. Claro que qualquer cor servia, é meramente para ter alguma cor.

 No meio, o padrão leopardo faz o trabalho todo e é simplesmente a questão de como um padrão consegue mudar um conjunto. Outro padrão animal ou qualquer estampado forte ficaria igualmente bem.

 À direita está o meu preferido. 2 estampados diferentes a preto e branco, uma enorme mancha de cor amarela e bijuteria clássica para que o look não fique demasiado juvenil. Quaiquer padrões e cores seriam suficientes para obter este efeito e é apenas necessário ter bom senso para que não se torne demasiado.

My outfit #5 - Teal saturday

Saturdays are quite often family-lunch days at B. parents' home and a time do dress up just a tiny little bit. We had a storm in Lisbon, today, and for the very first time in my whole life, my umbrella was destroyed by the wind. It was heartbreaking to see my favourite (and best) umbrella thorn apart like that. At least, I have an excuse to got shopping for a new one...



Not only it was a rainy day, but also a rather cold one, so I really wanted to go for the woolen pieces in my closet, but didn't want to look too gloomy, so I picked up a charcoal skirt with matching tights and boots but chose different shades of teal for the upper part. I wore 3 layers of teal, the lighter one being the scarf. I keept in mind Coco Chanel's statement that darker colours age our faces, so I went darker on the body and lighter next to the head. The skirt is quite unforgiving, so I wore a loose and sleeveless jumper over it and added a little interest with the scarf.

As I've mentioned before, I love plaid. And I happen to own an old jacket just with the right colours: grey and white, with a little red and teal. This was just what it took to make it an ensemble. The jewelry played a part too, from the watch to the earrings. I love bold statement earrings, but I belive they dont't go very well with necklaces, so this was the moment to wear these. I'm very fond of these earrings because they were the first I made for myself and are extra-light, therefore perfect for a whole day activity. As usual on family moments, the make up is neutral and natural.

Os sábados são frequentemente dias de almoço de família na casa dos pais do B. e são também ocasião para me aperaltar só um bocadinho pequenino. Hoje, tivemos uma tempestade em Lisboa e pela primeira vez na vida o meu chapéu-de-chuva foi totalmente destruído pelo vento. Foi um desgosto ver o meu chapéu-de-chuva preferido (e o melhor) despedaçado daquela maneira. Pelo menos sempre tenho desculpa para comprar um novo...

O dia não foi apenas chuvoso, mas também frio, e por isso queria usar peças de lã, mas não queria ter um ar demasiado sombrio. Por isso, escolhi uma saia cinza escuro, com collants e botas a condizer, mas preferi vários tons de azul-petróleo para a parte de cima. Usei 3 camadas de azul diferentes, sendo que a mais clara é a do cachecol. Lembrei-me da afirmação de Coco Chanel, que dizia que as cores escuras nos envelhecem o rosto, e por isso a parte mais escura foi para o corpo e a mais leve para a cabeça. A saia não perdoa nadinha, por isso usei uma camisola sem mangas e bastante solta por cima e acrescentei algum interesse com o cachecol.

Como já antes disse, adoro o tartan. E acontece que tenho um casaco já antigo com as cores certas: cinza e branco, com um toque de vermelho e de azul-petróleo. Foi tudo o que era necessário para criar um verdadeiro conjunto. A bijuteria teve um papel importante, desde o relógio aos brincos. Adoro brincos arrojados e grandes, mas acho que não ficam bem com colares, por isso este foi o momento certo para usar estes. Tenho um carinho especial por estes brincos, porque foram os primeiros que fiz para mim e são extra-leves, o que os torna perfeitos para andar um dia inteiro. Como é costume nas ocasiões familiares, a maquilhagem é neutra e natural.

Warm up a silky dress! / Aquecer um vestido de seda

Winter is a difficult time to wear formal dresses. It's cold outside and we must find ways to warm up in our light fabrics.
I loved this dress and I think its wonderful colour suits just about every woman, so I styled it with different pieces of outwear, just to give us a few options on warming up a silky dress.

O Inverno é uma época difícil para usar vestidos formais. Está frio lá fora e é preciso encontrar formas de nos mantermos quentes, mesmo usando tecidos leves. 
Adorei este vestido, acho que a cor favorece praticamente todas as mulheres e por isso combinei-o com diferentes casacos, para dar algumas opções de como aquecer um vestido de seda.
