My outfit #2 - Sexy 40's

Yesterday was B's birthday. B is the man in my life and he simply loves to see me in heels and mini-skirts and he doesn't care that I'm over 40 or that I may wonder if it's age appropriate, which sometimes I think it's not. But, since it was his birthday, I chose my outfit as another of my birthday gifts.


I had to find a way to wear a short dress and not to look over the top, so I went for a little black dress in faux leather and paired it with lace stockings and high heel boots over the knee, so my legs wouldn't show too much. To give the look a softer touch, I chose a white top to go under the sleeveless dress and finished with a red loose cardigan and a red scarf, which are not a set but really look like they do. The cardigan has 3/4 sleeves, so it shows all the layers of fabric and provides more brightness.

I wore 2 rings, the black stones one to match the black watch and a silver one with a clear stone. I bought it many years ago, in 1998, when Portugal hosted the Expo 98. I got it at Pakistan's pavillion and its a beautiful handmade piece. I wore pearl pendant neckless and earrings for an even more feminine look and also because I think pearls become a very good friend when skin ages, because of the light they catch and the warmth they provide to our face.

Yes, we can wear a mini-skirt over 40: just make sure you do it right and keep it elegant and classy.

Ontem, foi o aniversário do B. O B é o homem da minha vida e simplesmente adora ver-me de saltos altos e mini-saia. Não quer saber se já passei dos 40 ou se acho que não é adequado à idade (e às vezes não acho mesmo). Mas, já que era o aniversário dele, escolhi a roupa de forma a ser mais um dos presentes. 

Tive que encontrar forma de usar um vestido curto e não parecer espalhafatosa, por isso a escolha recaiu sobre um vestido preto em imitação de pele e combinei-o com meias de renda e botas de salto alto e acima de joelho, de forma a que as pernas não aparecessem muito.  Para suavizar, escolhi um top branco para colocar sob o vestido, que não tem mangas, e terminei com um cardigan vermelho e solto e um cachecol vermelho, que não pertencem a um mesmo conjunto, mas parece. O cardigan tem mangas 3/4 e por isso aparecem as várias camadas de tecido e dá uma luminosidade maior.

Usei 2 anéis, o de pedras pretas para combinar com o relógio preto e um de prata com pedra transparente. Este foi comprado há muitos anos, em 1998, quando Portugal foi o anfitrião da Expo 98. Comprei-o no pavilhão do Paquistão e é uma bela peça artesanal. Usei um pendente e brincos, ambos de pérolas, para um visual ainda mais feminino e também porque acho que as pérolas se tornam grandes amigas nossas quando a pele envelhece, devido à luz que  atraem e à ar caloroso que dão ao nosso rosto.


Sim, podemos usar mini-saia depois dos 40, mas de forma correcta, mantendo a elegância e uma certa classe.

My outfit #1

Today, I went trendy with twist. I love plaid, but I believe that shirts over jeans are not age appropriate or, at least, not for me. So I went closet-digging and found an old and very dear maxi-skirt with a light camel plaid, and paired it with brown boots and cardigan, along with a beige jumper. I added some pearls for brightness and "chic factor" in the bracelet and long neckless, as well as on my earrings. The nail polish was a light taupe and the faces make up was an orange eyeshadow with golden highlights and a nude lipgloss.

I think that plaid is an excellent trend for mature women, for it gives us the opportunity to wear a print without much fuss and, for the most part, plaids show off beautiful, rich colours, very easy to pair or even to build our all look around it. As I stated, I believe we should leave the baggy shirts for young girls and choose more structured and refined pieces, such as this skirt. This is also an opportunity to wear a maxi-skirt, a very confortable yet stylish way to keep warm and make your legs a mile long. Just make sure you wear heels to enhance your posture and... Voilá!

Hoje, segui uma tendência mas de forma diferente. Adoro axadrezados, mas creio que camisas sobre jeans não são adequados à minha idade ou pelo menos não são adequados para mim. Por isso, fui fazer escavações no roupeiro e encontrei uma velha e adorada saia comprida, com um padrão de caramelo. Juntei-lhe umas botas castanhas, um cardigan também castanho e uma camisola bege. Acrescentei pérolas para dar luminosidade e aumentar o "factor chique", na pulseira, no colar longo e ainda nos brincos. O verniz é um "taupe" claro e a maquilhagem do rosto é sombra laranja com brilhos dourados e um brilho de lábios em tom nude.

Creio que o axadrezado, ou tartan, é uma excelente tendência para mulheres maduras, pois dá a oportunidade de usar um padrão descomplicado e, na maior parte das vezes, o axadrezado tem cores lindas e ricas, fáceis de combinar ou mesmo de servir de base a todo o visual. Como referi, acho que as camisas largas devem ser usadas por raparigas novas e que devemos escolher peças mais estruturadas e refinadas, como esta saia. Foi também a oportunidade de usar uma saia maxi, uma forma confortável mas estilosa de nos mantermos quentes e de fazer as pernas parecerem quilométricas. Convém usar saltos para melhorar a postura e... Voilá!

On "age eraser" products / Acerca dos produtos que "apagam a idade"

Yesterday, I went beauty-shopping and got 2 products that are supposed to be specific for aging girls: a handcream and a foundation. I also got a few other items I'll tell you about some other time.

The handcream was from Eudermin, the "Stop Idade" one. It is said to have sun screen, along with vitamins C, E, F and B5, as well as alantoine. Only time will tell if it has any kind of effect as far as the aging goes, but it's creamy, smooth and easily absorbed, so I
think so far so good.








The foundation was a revelation altogether. I'm talking about Maybelline's "the Eraser", their anti-age version. First of all, it has in a very peculiar pump, that ends in a soft, round and spongy brush. I loved this, because you can choose to spread the foundation with it or any other brush. It's great to use when you're not at home, and many times I do aply foundation on my car, so I was happy with this. It is advertised as having SPF 18, as well as Gogi berries, collagen and hyaluronic acid and, again, I'll have to wait for the age-erasing treatment part of the foundation. But what I can tell you right now is that I absolutely loved the coverage and the soft feeling on the skin. The coverage is nearly full, but it kind of merges in the skin after a few minutes and doesn't come up as "too much" while it actually hides age spots or any other imperfections you may want to conceal. I'm in love with this foundation!


Until recently, I wasn't a fan of specific products for "aging" skin, but had I known what I'm learning now, I'd be a fan 10 years ago...

Ontem, fui fazer compras de beleza e troxe 2 produtos que é suposto serem para raparigas mais velhas: um creme para as mãos e uma base. Também comprei outras coisas de que vos falarei noutra altura.

O creme para as mãos é da Eudermin, o "Stop Idade". Diz na embalagem que tem protector solar, bem como as vitaminas C, E, F e B5, e também alantoína. Só o tempo dirá se tem algum efeito no envelhecimento, mas é cremoso, suave e facilmente absorvido, por isso gostei.

A base é que foi uma revelação. Falo da "Base Anti-Idade" da Maybelline. Para já, tem um dispensador peculiar, em "pump" que termina num pincel macio, redondo e esponjoso. Adorei isto, porque podemos escolher espalhar a base com este pincel ou com outro. É óptima para usar quando não estamos em casa e eu aplico a base no carro muitas vezes, por isso fiquei feliz com esta característica. A embalagem diz que tem SPF 18, bem como bagas de Gogi, colagénio e ácido hialurónico e, mais uma vez, terei que esperar para ver se a parte de tratamento anti-idade funciona realmente. O que posso dizer desde já é que adorei a cobertura e a sensação suave na pele. A cobertura é quase total, mas entranha-se na pele após alguns minutos e não tem o aspecto de ser "demais", ao mesmo tempo que realmente esconde as manchas da idade e outras imperfeições que queiramos esconder. Estou apaixonada por esta base!

Até há pouco tempo, não era grande entusiasta de produtos específicos "anti-idade", mas se soubesse o que sei hoje já os usaria há uns 10 anos...

This party season comes with a serious problem for me: I feel cold almost every moment of the day. When I think of all those beautiful party dresses we may get to wear this month, I try to come up with a plan not to freeze. And the plan is quite simple: beautiful sparkly sequin cardigans to keep us warm. So, I put together a few of them, just to give you a taste of warm party elegance. What do you think?

A época das festas tem um problema sério  para mim: tenho frio quase todos momentos do dia. Quando penso em todos os lindíssimos vestidos de festa que podemos usar este mês, tento arranjar um plano para não gelar. E o plano é bem simples: cardigans com brilhos e lantejoulas que nos mantêm quentes. Por isso, juntei alguns só para vos dar um gostinho da elegância quentinha das festas. O que acham?

Chic Plaid!

Plaid is an absolute trend this Fall/Winter, but it doesn't have to be a baggy shirt over jeans. As a matter os fact, it shouldn't be after you leave college and least of all over 40. So I have a few looks on "chic plaid", keeping it classy while trendy.

O tartan é uma tendência absoluta este Outono/Inverno, mas não tem que ser uma camisa larga sobre jeans. Na realidade, não deveria mesmo sê-lo depois de deixarmos a faculdade e muito menos quando se tem mais de 40 anos. Por isso trago aqui alguns looks de "tartan chique", que permite manter a classe e seguir as tendências.

Yet another tip for those who are loosing weight but still want to be fashionable: capes and wraps. This is an-everywhere-trend, suits all kinds os bodies and ages, fits many different sizes and still gives us a classy look.

Ainda mais uma dica para quem está a perder peso mas continua a querer estar na moda: capas e abafos. É uma tendência-que-está-em-todo-o-lado, adequa-se a todos os tipos de corpo e a qualquer idade e ainda nos dá um ar de classe.
